Faculty of Pharmacy Departments
Pharmaceutics is a branch of pharmaceutical sciences also called the science of pharmaceutical dosage forms and how to convert any pure drug substance into a pharmaceutical formulation that patients use safely and effectively. Therefore, the department specializes in studying the physicochemical properties of active drug substances as well as excipients in the pharmaceutical preparations. Thus, the department is concerned with studying the compositions of pharmaceutical dosage forms as tablets. capsules, syrups, and parenteral preparations…etc.as well as studying their bioavailability and bioequivalence properties. In addition, the Department of Pharmaceutics teaches industrial pharmacy courses related to the production of pharmaceutical preparations using the foundations of good manufacturing practice (GMP).

The Department of Pharmacology at the faculty of Pharmacy is specialized in teaching courses concerned with medicinal plants in their complete or in powder form, as well as studying the active chemical constituents and their effect in the treatment of diseases.
In addition to studying the methods of extracting the active constituents from their natural sources and identifying their chemical structures and special analytical methods. The department also specializes in studying alternative and complementary medicine.

Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department which include the following:
- Pharmaceutical Analytical Chemistry
- Pharmaceutical Organic Chemistry
- Medicinal Chemistry
The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry specializes in the basic rules of organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, as well as medicinal chemistry, to familiarize the student with the characteristic properties of primary pharmaceutical raw materials, as well as the relationship between their structure and biological activities. The department is also concerned with studying different drug design methods to enable students to continue study and research in the field of new drug discoveries.
The department is also interested in teaching the basics of analytical chemistry by identifying the different methods of qualitative and quantitative analysis and . After that, students are trained on practical and applied courses such as the study of water analysis as a model for environmental studies. Then the students move to the study of instrumental analysis, which is characterized by accuracy, speed and high sensitivity.
The study in the department aims at establish the basic fundamental in the field of pharmacology and its topics, such as the courses of medical terminology, pharmacology, clinical pharmacology as well as toxicology.
By studying these courses, the student is informed of the therapeutic effects of different drugs, the indications for their use, toxicity, side effects, and contraindications of their use, in addition to their drug-drug interactions.
As for clinical pharmacology, it is concerned with studying the therapeutic applications of drugs and how to select the most appropriate ones depending body functions or the patient’s underline condition.

The department mainly teaches biochemistry, clinical biochemistry, molecular biology, and clinical nutrition in order to introduce the student to the chemical and biological reactions that occur in living tissues, in addition to understanding and explaining many natural and pathological phenomena in the human body from a bio-chemical point of view.
The special interactions of the metabolism of carbohydrates, lipids and proteins inside the human body. Furthermore, it provide information that highlights recent developments in molecular biology, diagnosis of diseases through bio-markers either quantitative and qualitative method.

The Department of Microbiology teaches courses that study microbiology and immunology such as studying bacteria, viruses, parasites and yeasts and dealing with them as pathogens. These courses include general microbiology, immunology, pharmaceutical microbiology, clinical microbiology, biotechnology, public health and parasitology.
The department also aims to introduce the student to biotechnology, genetic engineering, fermentation technology, pharmaceutical biotechnology products and other biological treatments.

The Department of Clinical Pharmacy aims to provide the student with applied information that qualifies him to provide better services to patients, which contributes to raising the level of health care in general and the appropriate use of drugs dosage forms in particular, including patient counciling, drug treatment follow-up, providing advice and health guidance to the patient regarding the correct method and use. Optimization of the drug and to ensure that there are no drug interactions, The clinical pharmacist also provides the physician, the patient and the nursing staff with essential drug information that will make the medical teamwork successful in carrying out its mission.
